Dua for Illness – Seeking Healing from Allah
Illness is a test from Allah and a reminder of our dependence on Him. Islam teaches that during sickness, we should seek medical treatment while also praying to Allah for healing. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ has taught us many duas (supplications) for illness, which provide both spiritual comfort and healing.
General Dua for Healing from Illness
Hadith Reference:
The Prophet ﷺ said:
“O servants of Allah! Use medicine, for Allah has not made a disease without appointing a remedy for it, except one: old age.”
(Sunan Abu Dawood, 3855 – Sahih)
Dua in Arabic:
اللَّهُمَّ رَبَّ النَّاسِ، أَذْهِبِ الْبَأْسَ، اشْفِ أَنْتَ الشَّافِي، لَا شِفَاءَ إِلَّا شِفَاؤُكَ، شِفَاءً لَا يُغَادِرُ سَقَمًا
Transliteration:
Allahumma Rabb an-naas, adhhib al-ba’sa, washfi Antash-Shaafi, la shifaa’a illa shifaa’uk, shifaa’an la yughadiru saqama.
English Translation:
“O Allah! The Lord of mankind, remove this illness and cure it. You are the Healer. There is no healing except Your healing, a healing that leaves no trace of illness.”

Urdu Translation:
“اے اللہ! اے تمام انسانوں کے رب! اس بیماری کو دور فرما اور شفاء عطا فرما، کیونکہ تو ہی شفاء دینے والا ہے، تیرے سوا کوئی شفاء دینے والا نہیں۔ ایسی شفاء عطا کر جو کسی بیماری کو باقی نہ چھوڑے۔“
Dua for Pain Relief (Placing Hand on Affected Area)
Hadith Reference:
The Prophet ﷺ instructed:
“Place your hand on the area of pain and recite this dua.”
(Sahih Muslim, 2202)
Arabic:
بِسْمِ اللَّهِ، أَعُوذُ بِاللَّهِ وَقُدْرَتِهِ مِنْ شَرِّ مَا أَجِدُ وَأُحَاذِرُ
Transliteration:
Bismillah, a’udhu billahi wa qudratihi min sharri ma ajidu wa uhadhiru.
English Translation:
“In the name of Allah, I seek refuge in Allah and His power from the evil of what I feel and what I fear.”
Urdu Translation:
“اللہ کے نام سے، میں اللہ اور اس کی قدرت کی پناہ چاہتا ہوں ہر اُس تکلیف سے جو میں محسوس کر رہا ہوں اور جس سے میں ڈر رہا ہوں۔“
Dua for Someone Who is Sick
Hadith Reference:
The Prophet ﷺ used to say this dua when visiting the sick.
Arabic:
لَا بَأْسَ طَهُورٌ إِنْ شَاءَ اللَّهُ
Transliteration:
La ba’sa tahoorun in shaa Allah.
English Translation:
“No harm, it will be a purification (from sins), if Allah wills.”
(Sahih Bukhari, 3616)
Urdu Translation:
“کوئی حرج نہیں، اگر اللہ نے چاہا تو یہ بیماری گناہوں کا کفارہ بن جائے گی۔“
Dua for Protection from Sickness
Hadith Reference:
The Prophet ﷺ taught us to recite this three times in the morning and evening to stay protected from illness.
Arabic:
اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنَ الْبَرَصِ وَالْجُنُونِ وَالْجُذَامِ وَمِنْ سَيِّئِ الْأَسْقَامِ
Transliteration:
Allahumma inni a’udhu bika minal barasi, wal junooni, wal judhaami, wa min sayyi’il asqam.
English Translation:
“O Allah! I seek refuge in You from leprosy, madness, paralysis, and all serious illnesses.”
(Sunan Abu Dawood, 1554 – Sahih)
Urdu Translation:
“اے اللہ! میں تجھ سے برص، جنون، کوڑھ اور تمام خطرناک بیماریوں سے پناہ مانگتا ہوں۔”
Dua for Healing and Recovery
Quranic Reference:
This dua was recited by Prophet Ayyub (AS) when he was tested with severe illness.
Arabic:
أَنِّي مَسَّنِيَ ٱلضُّرُّ وَأَنتَ أَرْحَمُ ٱلرَّٰحِمِينَ
Transliteration:
Anni massaniyad-durru wa anta arhamur-rahimin.
English Translation:
“Indeed, adversity has touched me, and You are the Most Merciful of the merciful.”
(Surah Al-Anbiya 21:83)
Urdu Translation:
“بے شک، مجھے تکلیف پہنچی ہے اور تو سب رحم کرنے والوں میں سب سے زیادہ رحم کرنے والا ہے۔”
Dua for Pain, Forgiveness and Healing
Arabic Text:
اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي ظَلَمْتُ نَفْسِي ظُلْمًا كَثِيرًا وَلَا يَغْفِرُ الذُّنُوبَ إِلَّا أَنْتَ فَاغْفِرْ لِي مَغْفِرَةً مِنْ عِنْدِكَ وَارْحَمْنِي إِنَّكَ أَنْتَ الْغَفُورُ الرَّحِيمُ
Transliteration:
Allahumma inni zalamtu nafsi zulman kathiran wa la yaghfirudh-dhunuba illa anta faghfir li maghfiratan min ‘indika warhamni innaka antal-ghafurur-rahim.
English Translation:
O Allah, indeed I have wronged myself much, and none can forgive sins except You. So grant me forgiveness from Yourself and have mercy on me. Indeed, You are the Oft-Forgiving, the Most Merciful.
Urdu Translation:
“اے اللہ، بے شک میں نے اپنی جان پر بہت ظلم کیا ہے اور تیرے سوا کوئی گناہوں کو نہیں بخش سکتا، پس تو مجھے اپنی طرف سے بخشش عطا فرما اور مجھ پر رحم کر، بے شک تو ہی بخشنے والا، رحم کرنے والا ہے۔”
